Celebrating International Day of the Girl Child
Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) join the rest of the world in celebrating International Day of the Girl Child on the 11th October yearly. The day calls for a world where every girl can realize all her rights and responsibilities, such as to live free from violence, to attend and complete school, to choose when and whom she marries and equal opportunities to socio-economic development.
This year’s theme, ‘Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being’, aims for targeted and evidence-based investments in key areas that promote girls’ leadership and well-being to secure their rights and development. It is imperative to increase funding in key areas, including girls’ health, education, violence prevention, and economic empowerment. ZNFPC recognizes and respects the rights of girls and young women as human rights. ZNFPC established and supports 24 Youth Centres across all provinces in Zimbabwe through the Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health programme offering free health services.
