World Population Day commemoration

ZNFPC joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Population Day. The day is an annual event commemorated on the 11th July to raise awareness on global population issues. The celebrations aim to increase people’s responsiveness on various socio-economic development issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.
As the total world population is about to cross the 8 billion mark, the theme of World Population Day is, ‘To safeguard the health and rights of women and girls; and putting the brakes on COVID-19’.
Family planning empowers women and girls and helps save lives. Pregnancy should be by choice and not by chance. To reap demographic dividend in the youthful Zimbabwean population, it is essential to invest more in adolescents and young people to have a productive nation and Family Planning can help to achieve it.
